A normal umbrella found today in shops is usually made with a minimum of 24 different components. For most umbrellas, when they break, they are disposed in a normal waste bin. Umbrellas cannot by recycled as they are made with composite materials, including metal, plastics, textile….
The name Modulo 8 refers to the fact that the umbrella is made with 8 components.
MODULO 8
Modulo 8 is a modular umbrella design composed by components which can be easily replaced. Modulo 8 is a smart alternative that eliminates the concept of waste and create a circular product’s lifecycle. The modular characteristic of Modulo 8 enables the product to be easily assembled and disassembled. These components are firstly manufactured and assemled in the warehouse then distributed to the consumers.
An online plaftorm enables the user to be in direct contact with the warehouse. Therefore the user can customize his product and if a component breaks when using it, then he can quickly request a replacement component.
The way common umbrellas are usually manufactured creates an excessive amount of waste, especially when a common umbrella breaks the user throws the whole product away.
